Maddy Gordon - Multidisciplinary artist working in Ontario, Canada
Maddy Gordon_Headshot.jpeg

Through the use of a variety of mediums, but primarily that of graphite and charcoal, Maddy creates “unconventional” forms of self portraiture that delve into the intricacies of the relationship with her mind and body.

Central to her work is the exploration of the body, which is influenced by her ongoing struggles with body image and the pursuit of self-discovery and acceptance. This exploration of the physical form is done with subtle nuance, examining how the body contorts and exists in space, each piece acting as a meditative reflection representing the intricate interplay of thought and emotion not representative of any specific place or time. By creating these works, Gordon delves into her memories and experiences, both good and bad, and examines how they inform her identity and movement through the world.

Each graphite self-portrait acting as a testament to her personal journey, and as a mirror that reflects the shared human experience of finding one’s identity and place within the world.
